Rain gear, not reindeer needed for Santa Rampage tomorrow

Say it isn't so! Cold rain for the Santa Cycle Rampage?

Grinch seems to have had a hand in the weather for this year’s Santa Cycle Rampage set for tomorrow. The forecast is for temperatures in the 40s, 100% chance of rain and 30 mph winds. Brrrrr and double yuck…

I can’t believe I don’t already own a waterproof Santa suit given I am a freak about always having just the right clothing so I can bike to any occasion in any weather, and I brought the Santa Cycle Rampage to Milwaukee 12 years ago. ¬†I promise that by next year, I will have a fully waterproof Santa suit dialed in. I already have a couple red soft shell jackets. Adding white trim to the cuffs and waist would a cinch. Pop on the black belt, beard and cap and my top half is done.

Last year at I picked up a pair of black plastic Santa boots complete with white fur trim for $10 at Value Village. But all my rain pants are either black, blue or yellow, no red. Anyone know where I might pick up a pair of cheap red rain pants around town tonight? Farm and Fleet?  Sherpers? REI? Comment below if you can direct me to the red rain pants outlet. Otherwise this year I may have to live with black rain pants and just order some for next Christmas.

Even though the weather sounds like it will be crummy tomorrow, I would encourage folks to come on out for at least the start of the Rampage. There are a bunch of places around town where Santas gather prior to the official start at Cafe Hollander on Downer. Another option would be to pedal over to one of the stops along the official route. You will have fun even if you don’t continue on the ride. It is hard to describe how much fun it is to ride around town with a bunch of other Santas, elves and Santa’s helpers unless you experience it in person.

The “official” schedule is below, but the most up to date information and alternate start locations can be found on the Santa Rampage Facebook page here.

9-10 pre-ride parties at Cafe Hollander, Cafe Centraal and Fuel Cafe
11-12 at Lakefront Brewery
1-2 at Great Lakes Distillery
3-4 at Kochanski’s Concertina Beer Hall
4-6 (or later) post-party at Cafe Centraal
