Thanks to everyone who showed up last Thursday night to make our first Milwaukee showing of the Clips Beer and Film Tour a huge success. The stats were impressive for a first-time event:
- 900 wrist bands sold
- 500 bikes parked
- 300 underwear riders joined us
- 18 great short films viewed
- 16 delicious session beers sampled
- ZERO problems!
New Belgium has brought their Clips Beer and Film Tour to Madison for the last four years. More than 1,700 people got wrist bands and 1,000 people showed up on bikes for the Madison event. This year they also brought the film festival to Green Bay and Milwaukee. Combined, the three festivals grossed more than $28,000 for the Bike Fed this year. Even though this was the first time New Belgium brought their Clips Tour to Milwaukee, more than 1,000 people in attendance is a huge success. Let’s plan on double that for next year. (Steve, can you deliver 600 underwear riders for 2014?
Special thanks to all the volunteers who showed up at 6:30 P.M, and worked the long night without drinking any of that delicious looking beer. The films ended at 10, but we were not done cleaning and packing up until midnight. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our very good friends at New Belgium Brewery. Sure, cynics will say the Clips Beer and Film Tour is part of their marketing strategy to get you to buy their beer after they leave, but I think it works. Given they make great beer in the most sustainable brewery in the country and they support bicycling, why wouldn’t you drink their beer once in a while?
