We wanted to celebrate walking in winter and we got a wintery weather today for sure. With the snow falling and winds blowing this morning in Milwaukee it was safer, and maybe faster, to walk to school instead of drive. Roads were messy, but with some boots and the proper warm gear, walking was fun for the kids I spoke with. Fairview Charter school on 68th and Kinnickinnic Parkway welcomed kids who walked with pencils and safety stickers and information. Early counts marked about 20 kids that walked today at Fairview.
I am awaiting official counts from Fernwood Montessori, where I was stationed today, but from the rosy cheeks I saw I would say at least 40 kids walked. Some student volunteers and I gave out hot cocoa courtesy of the PTO to the kids and coffee to parents and staff from Anodyne Coffee Roasters. The Bike Fed, along with other partners across the state, are promoting a Winter Activity Challenge as well promoting any physically activity. Log your whole family’s activity at wi.fireupyourfeet.org for chance to win $200 for your kid’s school!
