Winter ‘Fire Up Your Feet’ Activity Challenge winner

The Bike Fed put up a reward of $200 last week.

It wasn’t for info on a stolen bike, or for your participation in a survey – the reward was a prize to encourage kids to walk and bike to school. It would go to support active and healthy initiatives the school in Wisconsin that had the most participants log at least one physical activity on the Fire Up Your Feet website.

The severe temps and blowing snow during the Fire Up Your Feet contest made it  a challenge just to be outside, let alone to bike or walk, but that is winter in Wisconsin. The goal of offering the reward to schools was to encourage families across the state to get out and be active despite the weather – dressed properly obviously!

Well we would like to announce the winners, but really any person who logged any activity that week is a winner in our hearts!

Students at Fernwood Montessori in Milwaukee arrive by foot at school in the blowing wind on February 5th.

With the Olympics upon us we know only one can take home the gold in this event…. and that school is….FERNWOOD MONTESSORI in Milwaukee, WI! They will receive $200 to continue to help them reach their goal of building a bike shelter to increase and improve bike parking options.

Thanks to the other students who participated at Maryland Ave Montessori and Readfield Elementary, I’m sure this will only increase the rivalry in the Spring Challenge that runs May 1st-31st, as these same schools were the top 3 (just a flipped podium) in our 2013 Fall Activity Challenge as well! Congrats everyone!
