A proposed ordinance governing organized bike rides through Iowa County is before that county’s board of supervisors for a vote this evening. The board meets at 7 PM at The Health & Human Services Center Community Room, 303 West Chapel Street, in Dodgeville.
The ordinance has been improved somewhat since it was introduced last fall and 100 bike advocates and others showed up at a county board hearing to voice their opposition to it.
However, the ordinance still needs work. The insurance requirement is onerous and the application fee of $250 is also a problem. Iowa County bike advocates and small businesses who benefit from biking will be there tonight along with the Bike Fed to ask the board to refer the ordinance back to the Economic Development Committee for further work.
We’ll report on the outcome after the vote.
