Register now for the Polish Moon Ride

Each year the Bike Fed gets lots of requests to send staff with our information to fundraising rides around the state. Back in January when we were planning which Wisconsin rides attend, we realized we don’t actually have a ride of our own! We were a bike organization without a bike ride, emphasis on the were.

Thanks to support from some great bike-friendly businesses in Milwaukee, we are excited to announce that as of Friday August 22 at 8pm, with the inaugural Polish Moon Bike Ride on Milwaukee, we will have a fundraising ride, emphasis on the fun.

To set our ride apart from the hundreds of other great rides around the state, it starts at night under the always-full Polish Moon (the Rockwell Clock Tower) in Walker’s Point and will include polka music played on the ride, live from the back of a Cream City Rickshaw Pedicab! Because the neighborhood demographics have shifted over the years, we are also looking to add a Norteno accordion player  or Mariachi trio to pay tribute to the Mexican heritage  now prevalent in the area.

Smooth pavement and bike lanes to start your ride on S 2nd Street.

Walker’s Point is arguably Milwaukee’s hottest neighborhood and boasts a rapidly growing list of great new restaurants, breweries, distilleries and retail shops getting national attention in the New York Times. Our ride starts and ends at 2nd and Bruce Streets, next to the main ride sponsors. You will love the smooth concrete on 2nd, which was repaved and underwent a “road diet” to reduce it from four motor vehicle lanes to two so bike lanes and wider sidewalks could be added.

The ride itself will be a slow, police-led, 11 mile parade-style ride through the historic Polish neighborhoods on Milwaukee’s near south side. You can click on the Google Map to the right to open see the route in detail. There will be no stops, and this is not a pub crawl, but never fear, the ride returns to 2nd and Bruce for a block party featuring more live music and beverage offerings from Annodyne Coffee, Central Standard Craft Distillery, and Milwaukee Brewing Company.

Be sure to show up early enough to eat dinner though, because beginning at 6pm we will close the street and start the block party where Ben’s Cycle and Fitness/Milwaukee Bicycle Company will be grilling sausage, a taco truck for Mexican fare and Purple Door Ice Cream will be scooping up their fabulous ice cream. With ice cream, food, soda and a short, slow ride, this will be a family friendly ride and we encourage you to bring the kids to close out their summer vacation with a unique chance for them to ride safely on city streets.

The party will end around 11:30pm, and there are rumors of a post party ride to Kochanski’s Concertina Beer Hall to keep the Polska Power going!

We will have more details soon, but you won’t want to miss this fun, uniquely Milwaukee ride, so take the time to sign up now using the registration form below. Thanks to all our sponsors for supporting the Bike Fed and believing in this idea enough make it happen this year: Anodyne Coffee Roasters, Ben’s Cycle and Fitness, Coast Inn BikesFix Development, Milwaukee Brewing CompanyPurple Door Ice Cream, Radio Milwaukee 88Nine, and Urban Milwaukee. Thanks also to our friends at Kochanski’t Concertina Beer Hall,  Cream City Rickshaw, and Layton Boulevard West Neighborhood Association.

  1. Hi. Having problems signing up for polish moon. Keeps saying I have to log in. But there is nowhere to log in.

    Thx,
    Brett

    • Hi Kevin,

Thanks for letting me know the WPA still has the original date. I will let them know to change it. And yes, Ben’s now has the shirt deal and we should add that to this page too. I will talk to Paul to get the information.

  2. I am a resident in the neighborhood. I received a poster that said the residents had a reduced rate of $20.00. When I went to register there was not a rate like that. I would still like to register for the Polish Moon bike ride.

    • Hi Brenda, the resident rate is $25, not $20, but it is for an entire family, so you could bring more people with you if you have them to bring. It also applies to people who work in the area. Did you see the $20 rate posted somewhere? It might be a mistake, but I would like to know so other people are not annoyed by it.

      • I live in the neighborhood and a poster was dropped off at my house. It does say family rates for residents is $20.00. It may have been a mistake but it should be honored.

        • Hey Brenda, we will honor that $20 for you at the event. Just tell them at registration that Dave Schlabowske told you that. It was probably my mistake using an older handout created before someone else set up our online registration.
