A memorial ride is being organized to honor Chris Vogts, who was tragically struck and killed on his bicycle on a ride from Madison to New Orleans earlier this year. Chris worked at Budget Bicycle in Madison, and was beloved by riders across the not only for his signature red beard, but also his incredibly cheerful demeanor and passion for all-things bicycling.
From the ride’s site:
It’s happening in T-9 days, y’all.
The Christopher “Red” Vogts Memorial Bike Tour, Madison to New Orleans.
Please join us on the first night of this journey. We will ride about 26 miles from Madison to New Glarus State Park for camping and remembering before a small group heads south along the Mississippi River Trail to finish Red’s last ride.
WHERE: Meet at Budget Bicycles (1230 Regent St, Madison WI).
WHEN: Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 am and returning Sunday afternoon when you’re ready.
BRING: YOUR BICYCLE, camping gear, food/drink for the evening and morning, stories, sounds, music, yourselves.
**Note: This first leg of the ride is almost entirely on dedicated bicycle trail and it’s beautiful — a perfect opportunity to bring friends or family who are new to bicycle camping or longer distance rides. They will NOT be disappointed
Ride out with us to experience the pure joy of cycling and the freedom of traveling on 2-wheels that Red knew so well.
