Milwaukee Bike Safety Week Kicks Off Today

The City of Milwaukee declared June 2nd-6th Bike Safety Week and there are a host of great activities listed below to help residents enjoy Milwaukee by bike safely and legally.


Bike Safety Week  June 2nd through June 6th


MPS  Recreation Biking in Traffic Class

Monday June 2nd  6:30p to 7:30p

Riverside H.S. 1615 E Locust St, Milwaukee

MPS Recreation Online Registration System

This class is a great follow up to Savvy City Cycling and delves more deeply into commuting and advanced traffic skills.  Note there is no bike ride connected with this class.

Adult   $6 Residents/$8 Non-Residents


Savvy City Cycling (Adult)

Tuesday June 3rd 5:30pm to 6:30pm

City of Milwaukee’s Zeidler Municipal Building

841 N. Broadway St.,  1st floor conference room


This introductory course covers bicycling laws, essential gear for your bike, and how to plan and ride your route  anywhere safely and confidently for journeys less than 3 miles long.

This is a demonstration class for Bike Safety Awareness Week. Cost: Free


Ride to Work with Ald. Zielinski

Wednesday, Jun 4, 2014 7am

Sven’s Cafe, 2699 S Kinnickinnic Ave.


Meet at Sven’s Cafe 2699 S Kinnickinnic Ave at 7am. Leave by 7:15am. Ride to City Hall with Alderman Tony Zielinski as part of Bike Safety Awareness week events in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force

Friday June 6th, 2013 at 9:00 a.m.

Zeidler Municipal Building, Room 708,

841 N. Broadway, Milwaukee


The Task Force is charged with recommending to policy-makers ways to make Milwaukee a more bicycle and pedestrian friendly community.  This is accomplished by serving as the formal means through which active citizen participation is provided to advise policy makers….

The meeting is always open to the general public.


MPS  Recreation Savvy City Cycling Class II & Street Ride (Adult)

Saturday June 7th  10a -Noon

Riverside H.S. 1615 E Locust St, Milwaukee

MPS Recreation Online Registration System

This on-bike course covers state laws, bike handling skills, safe riding techniques, and is followed by a  community ride to put the new skills into practice.  This is great follow up to Savvy City Cycling and Biking in Traffic. Participant must bring their bicycle and helmet!     $8 Residents/$12 Non-Residents

Based in Milwaukee, Keith has spent most of the last decade advocating, encouraging, healthier lifestyles in the communities of color mainly using bicycling as the tool for change. Keith worked for more than five years for the Active Transportation Alliance developing and maintaining relationships with the African-American communities throughout Chicagoland. Keith moved to Milwaukee in 2007 where he continues with the formation of Milwaukee Bicycle Works. He also serves as chairman of Milwaukee Bike Ped Task Force.
