Green Bay to Fyxation or Bust: Fundraising ride for GB Bicycle Collective

Thanks to Heather Gentry for this fun and inspiring post about the Green Bay Bicycle Collective.

The day the Green Bay Bicycle Collective acquired a small garage on 4th Street, Mike Johnson was there to help turn it into a community bike shop. That was a year ago and he’s determined more than everto see more “butts on bikes”. To prove it, he’s biking from Green Bay to Milwaukee via his Fyxation Lakefront Brewery single speed. Crazy, right?

As the GBBC program coordinator, Mike organizes and assists with rides, fundraisers, and our earn a bike program (we are a non-profit bicycle education and advocacy group that serves the Greater Green Bay Area and Brown County). His unique approach to public outreach has been a pleasure to watch over the last year and we were not at all surprised when he came up with the idea to ride from Green Bay to Milwaukee to raise money for the GBBC.

The idea…gather sponsors to support Mike in his mission to ride to Milwaukee on his single speed Fyxation. Why single speed? Mike won a Lakefront Brewery Fyxation bicycle 3 years ago and it’s his go-to bike. He called Fyxation and proposed to bike there on that very bike if they would donate a custom bike to the Collective for our spring membership drive. Done! Fyxation loved the idea and we plan to grow this into a yearly group ride. Our other sponsors for this inaugural ride include local bike shops Broken Spoke, JB Cycle and Sport, and Pete’s Garage. As well as Hinterland and Lakefront breweries.

He made it!

The plan was to bike from Hinterland Brewery to Fyxation and Lakefront Brewery via county roads through Kettle Moraine. We’re proud to say Mike complete his ride last Friday and proud to have Mike in our community bike culture! Give him a shout out to congratulate him on our the GBBC Facebook page!

If you like what we’re doing and would like to show additional support, we have a GoFundMe available under “GBBC Community Bike Shop”.

Lastly, stay tuned and ride with us from GB to MKE next year! Cheers and ride on!
