Volunteer to help us grow bicycling.

We are always seeking volunteers to help us make Wisconsin a better place to bicycle. Without the amazing support of our volunteers, we would not be able to accomplish as much as we do.

The Bike Fed is starting to roll out Milwaukee’s Smart Trips Pilot Program in the Riverwest and Harambee neighborhoods and we would love your help!

In a nutshell, the program will be implemented over three years with the goal being to increase the number of trips made by walking, biking, transit and ride-sharing. This will be accomplished with an intensive outreach program in which every household within the program area will be contacted and residents will be able to order materials, goodies and other resources to help them with their transportation choices. For more info on Milwaukee’s Smart Trips program, click here: Milwaukee Smart Trips Program Launches

We need help with the following:

Traffic Counts (motorized and non-motorized)

Volunteers are needed to help conduct traffic counts in the Riverwest and Harambee neighborhoods. We’ll be conducing traffic counts three times in 2015: May 6 – 8th, July 8 – 10th, and September 9 – 11th. In order to capture peak commute data, all counts must be conducted from 4 – 6pm, but volunteers are able to decide which day within each range works best for them (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday). Volunteers committing to the full season will be given location preference as well as a special reward (read: party!) at the end of the season.

Neighborhood Survey

Volunteers are needed to help conduct a door-to-door survey in Riverwest and Harambee in July and August. The survey will gather information on residents’ current transportation choices as well as current awareness and attitudes towards walking, biking and transit. Volunteers will be trained ahead of time and will canvass the neighborhood in pairs (feel free to sign-up with a friend!).

Event Outreach
Volunteers are needed to attend community events in Riverwest and Harambee and survey residents about their current transportation choices as well as awareness and attitudes towards walking, biking and transit. The dates for this are flexible–you choose the event/s you’d like to attend and do the outreach at!
