Let's celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of fall riding

It’s been a wonderful summer for my family and me. We’re so fortunate to live in the very walkable and bikeable Wauwatosa. We’ve spent the summer riding to Hoyt Pool, to eat dinner at places like Cafe Hollander, and Leff’s Lucky Town, to enjoy “ice cream” (as my girls call it) at Yo Mama and to concerts and the playground at the newly alive Hart Park.

It’s been a tough summer for some–the severe heat and the drought conditions have hit our farmers hard–however I’m in a sentimental mood in this last week before Labor Day as I watch the last moments of summer come to an end. My family and I are looking forward to a long weekend then it’s off to school for my daughters next Tuesday.

I’m also looking forward to a beautiful Wisconsin autumn with all sorts of great bicycle happenings. The end of summer can be celebrated in no better way then attending the 2nd Annual La Crosse Area Bicycle Festival this weekend.  The 30th Annual Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival will be happening between Cable and Hayward on September 14, 15 and 16th. The coming vibrant fall colors can only mean the cyclocross season is almost upon us; check out the Wisconsin Cycling Association website for schedule details. Of course these are only a few of the great events that will be happening in 2012. Check out our event calendar for more opportunities.

I hope you, your family and your friends celebrate the end of summer on your bikes this weekend. We’d love you to kick off your long weekend with us at these improptu Friday events:

Bike ride from Milwaukee Bike Fed office to Estabrook Park Beer Garden

Friday, August 31st. Leave Bike Fed office at 2 p.m.

End of summer meet up at the Essen Haus

Friday, August 31st. Meet at 3 p.m.

Elsewhere around Wisconsin

Many of you won’t be able to meet staff in either Milwaukee or Madison so instead join together with your bicycle friends in your community and celebrate the changing of the bicycle season. E-mail me pictures of your get togethers and I’ll put them up on our blog.
