National Bike (and Walk) to School Day is great way to Fire Up Your Feet!

The rain can not last forever, but encouraging your child’s school to support biking and walking as a viable and fun transportation option can have lifetime benefits. Use this coming Wednesday May 7th, or any day in May really- as it is Bike Month, to celebrate and encourage active transportation!

You can plan an event in as little as 7 days!

Walking or biking to school can help prepare your child ‘s mind and body for a big day of learning. Studies show that being active on the way to school helps to increase students focus for up to 4 hours! to Make it more fun and social and get more people moving join or form a Walking School Bus or Bike Train and get your friends and neighbors involved too!

Individuals, schools and organizations that register their Bike to School Day event online are eligible to win one of the ten drawings for Schwinn’s bike and helmet giveaway. Each giveaway will include 10 bicycles and 20 helmets to be awarded to a winning school. Drawings will begin on Wednesday April 16th. Winners will be announced weekly on the Safe Routes to School and Schwinn Facebook pages.

This spring The Bike Fed brings you the Fire Up Your Feet Spring Activity Challenge. Open to all Wisconsin K-8 schools the activity challenge is a great way to encourage being active in your family and school communities! The  K-8 school in Wisconsin with the highest participation rate will be awarded $1000 for their efforts as well as a $600 2nd place and $200 3rd place prize provided courtesy of the Wisconsin Bike Fed to help support wellness and active initiatives at the school!
