Wisconsin DMV Monitors Display Share & Be Aware Safety Message

The Wisconsin Bike Fed is happy to report that our Share & Be Aware logo, along with some important road safety messages, are being displayed on Wisconsin’s DMV Monitors in major locations with the highest counter traffic.  The Wisconsin DMV monitors are part of WisDOT’s Motor Vehicle Network(MVN).  MVN allows WisDOT to promote timely and educational information to visitors at several DMV customer service centers.

The Wisconsin Bike Fed and the Share & Be Aware staff are happy to have this opportunity to spread these important messages to drivers as they come into service stations daily.  We strive to find  important venues to spread our message to all road users.

Initially our Bike Fed Share & Be Aware staff asked the DMV if they could use our existing PSAs (like the one below) in their service stations.  They were not able to accommodate that request because their monitors do not have audio capability. Fortunately, the DMV team was just beginning the process of rebranding their department to provide a more uniform look to their digital communications, so they created the new silent Share & Be Aware PSA (like the one above) that they can show.

The new messaging was created with guidance from the bicycle program and safety experts in WisDOTs’s Bureau of Planning and Economic Development and Bureau of Transportation Safety.  The Share and Be Aware campaign is a key component in providing public outreach and education.  WisDOT continues to work to educate both bicyclists, pedestrians, and drivers on the rules of the road.  Messages will be updated throughout the year.

Thank you to all of the members of the WisDOT team that are helping to spread the important message that we must respect the rights and responsibilities of all road users on Wisconsin roads.

  1. I recommend Wisconsin follow Utah’s signage of a large yellow diamond sign with black front silhouettes of a cyclist and car separated by a double arrow between them, with “STATE LAW”
above and “3 FEET” below. Succinct, direct, poignant. Wisconsin’s current messages impress as too ‘soft’, more like recommendations than orders. “3 FEET” is the law, not a guideline, recommendation, or suggestion.
