Many of you may be aware of the National Bike Challenge which is a nation-wide event, but did you know that there is another local challenge for those of us in Madison and Dane County? Madison is one of four cities in the United States that is participating in the “Love to Ride” challenge.
This challenge is all about participation and which workplaces can get the most people to ride a bike for just 10 minutes or more. While the National Bike Challenge is as much about miles ridden as it is about the number of trips taken by bike, Love to Ride is focused on bringing the Madison community together to encourage each other to ride a bike.
All you have to do is go to the Love to Ride website and register (yourself, and hopefully your business or organization). Then each time you ride for 10 minutes or more, just go to the website and log your ride. The more times you ride, the more points you accumulate. And if you recruit friends and colleagues to ride, you get points for helping them to take that first ride too.
There are some great prizes involved for individuals and business, and you earn more chances at individual prizes by encouraging others to ride, and the team contest is all about getting as many of your colleagues to ride a bike as you can. After your first ride you will be eligible to win bike pumps from Planet Bike, gift cards from Short Stack Eatery, an ice cream cone from Chocolate Shop, bike bags, B Cycle memberships, and much more. Everyone will also be entered into the grand prize drawing of a Trek 7.2 FX bicycle.
Your business or organization is eligible to win prizes too! There are six different size categories, so regardless of its size, you can be competitive. Your participation also counts towards your department’s or organization’s score. So the more employees you can recruit to ride, the more points your group can get.
The Challenge runs from August 23rd to September 30th2015, so there is still a week left for you and your organization to earn points for individual and group prizes. Our goal is to have 100 organizations participate in this challenge, so please sign up your organization and help us reach that goal.
Please tell all of your friends and colleagues that you “Love to Ride!”
