Sign up for a free Teaching Safe Bicycling Workshop this Season

Teaching Safe Bicycling is a Train-the-Trainer workshop designed to provide adults with skills to host a youth bicycle rodeo or other bicycle education in their local communities. This FREE six hour workshop uses a combination of classroom, and hands-on instruction.  Participants will learn tips and skills to improve bicycling safety, and how to identify and avoid common bicycling hazards. They will also learn how children differ from adults as cyclists. The workshop is hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation/Bureau of Transportation Safety and is free and open to any adult participants interested in teaching bicycle skills to children.

What you will learn:

• Learn to develop and organize a successful child bicycle training event in your community                                                                    
• Find out how children differ from adults as bicycle riders and how their crashes are different
• Understand state-of-the-art skills related to safe bicycle riding and tips on how to teach hazard avoidance to children
• Experience hands-on hazard identification in bicycle riding areas and know how to work to eliminate or correct these hazards
• Learn how to work with service organizations, schools, community leaders, media and law enforcement to assure safe riding in the community
• Share successful ways  you have  worked with children and learn from others
• Get useful bike safety materials to take back home

Preparation for Teaching Safe Bicycling:

BRING A BICYCLE and  helmet. These are necessary for the P.M. bicycle ride, a required learning activity. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, including cool weather gear.   The training begins at 9 A.M. sharp with get acquainted introductions and a pre-test period. Lunch is on your own. Training is scheduled to end at 3:00 P.M. There is NO REGISTRATION FEE, but preregistration is required and limited to 30 people per site.    Register here.
