Register here for the Bike Summit!
Wausau was selected to host the bike Summit on October 4th and 5th this year as an opportunity to showcase their infrastructure, mountain biking, and community wide focus on active lifestyles. Wausau was rated the best small city for cycling in the 2018 Places For Bikes rankings.
To start the Summit weekend off properly, be sure to come out and join CWOCC and the Bike Fed for the Ringle Trails Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, October 3 at 4:00pm at the trailhead! Walking and riding tours will be available!
Ringle Trails is machine-built “flow” trail that is hard-packed and smooth with very few technical root or rocky sections, making it a great riding experience for beginner and intermediate riders. Scattered throughout the trails are numerous optional “b-lines” that feature rock drops, gap jumps, and technical rock sections that will challenge even the most advanced rider.
On October 4th , the Summit will take place at the Jefferson Street Inn with registration and networking from 7:30-8:00 am and Mayor Mielke’s welcome address beginning promptly at 8:00am followed by an introduction by the Wisconsin Bike Fed and legislative updates and a morning session by ISG on Jump Starting Community Projects.
The breakout sessions will include:
- International Mountain Bike Association: Trail Building
- Complete Streets Statewide Discussion
- Economic Impact: How to Build a Strong Grant Application
- Policy Champions and Allies: Roles People Play and What Visions Exist
- and more!
Lunch time conversation will be inspired by Wisconsin Active Together – Live Announcement of new cities and a thought provoking activity to help advocates and professional groups connect and build strong relationships.
In addition to the networking and development opportunities one expects from a conference, Wausau’s winning cycling infrastructure will be on full display with guided sessions devoted to mountain biking, a ride through Wausau’s River District, urban cycling and a walk assessment. Bringing your own bike is encouraged, 8 local bike share bikes and rides on 3 Cycling Without Age trishaws will offer unique ride opportunities for a limited number of riders.
The evening will round out with a reception between 4:00-8:00 pm with a cash bar. Evening activities will include:
- Bike Trails/ATV/UTV – Input and feedback session
- People for Bikes session on Bicycling Participation & Ride Spot
Saturday morning will be filled with more great opportunities to ride.
