Walk, Bike, and Roll to school and encourage others to join you on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12th 2022!
Children who walk or bike to school are shown to have stronger connections to their community, improved mental health, and an easier time paying attention during class. To learn more and for resources on hosting an event visit https://www.walkbiketoschool.org/. Let’s build stronger and healthier school communities across Wisconsin! This can be a simple act of encouragement or a grand event. The Bike Fed’s Safe Routes teams in Dane County and Milwaukee Public Schools will also be celebrating.
We are in our second year with feet and wheels on the ground in Dane County, offering Safe Routes to School Programs to students in grades K-8! The Safe Routes Dane County team is thrilled to connect with students in classrooms and on the roads through the Bike Fed’s Walking Wisdom and Bike Drivers’ Ed curricula, teaching young commuters about safe walking and biking for transportation. We are grateful for our incredible community partners at schools, municipalities, and organizations that support and strengthen our work and shared vision for a healthy and active Dane County. For more information about Walk to School Day, the Walk or Wheel (WOW) Challenge, and Walktober, please contact our Program Manager Caitlin Hussey at email@example.com.
MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Our Safe Routes to School Program is in its 18th year serving Milwaukee Public Schools. We have made a major impact in young people’s lives. Yet, serving 120 schools is a major task. This year we are very excited to embark on year two of an annual Walking Safety curriculum, led by the MPS Physical Education department. Every year, all MPS students K4-8th grade will have walking safety lessons as an official part of their scholastic journey! Each lesson is tailored to the various grade levels providing a fun opportunity to get outside and learn about road safety. This effort is truly transformative in that we will be reaching near universal safety lessons across the district.
In addition to this district-wide curriculum, our Safe Routes Instructors will be assisting our MPS partners in hosting their own events from Community Walks, Bicycle Caravans, and Walking School Buses. There is a way for every school to celebrate. If you are an MPS parent, teacher, or administer please reach out to see how we can help.
