During Wisconsin Bike Week, officials and community members gathered in Kimberly for a ribbon cutting for Look the Locks. Loop the Locks is a 13-mile bike and pedestrian trail system that links Appleton, Combined Locks, Kaukauna, Kimberly and Little Chute. Funding for the project included support from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program.

Knowles-Nelson provides funds for cities, counties, non-profit groups and the state to purchase land for conservation, outdoor recreation and trails. It funds essential upkeep and maintenance of our waterways, parks, forests, and trails. The hiking, biking, snowmobile and ATV trails across the state owe their existence to the program. Stewardship has funded projects in every single county in Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Bike Fed has made reauthorization and increased funding for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program a top legislative priority for the next State budget by joining Team Knowles-Nelson.

Team Knowles-Nelson has a fun and easy way for you to show your support, too, by sending your legislators a personal postcard using this cool postcard tool!   Visit  KnowlesNelson.org/postcards to upload a photo of a favorite Wisconsin view or outdoor adventure and add a personal message in support of renewing Knowles-Nelson. They will  print your photo & message on physical postcards and mail them to your state legislators and the governor, advocating for the program’s renewal.

It’s a quick, easy, and impactful way to urge your lawmakers to continue funding and supporting stewardship by showing its impact through your personal experiences. Please share widely with your network and encourage anyone who enjoys Wisconsin’s outdoors to create their own postcard.
