Programs we offer

These are what we’ve offered in the past, we are very interested in adapting our programming to support teens with their transportation.

Bicycle Driver’s Ed

We help teach students to bike and to bike safely on streets with car traffic. This can be from one day to one week long.

Bike Clubs

We help schools and rec departments start bike clubs, both clubs that are focused on going on bike rides and teaching bike repair skills.Check out this video about the bike club at Madison’s East High School.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety in Driver’s Ed classes

We can be guest speakers in Driver’s Ed classes to add an emphasis on how to be safe around pedestrians and bicyclists.

Job Transportation Workshop

If you are offering an internship or job for teens, it is often their first job, and being punctual and reliable is an important skill to learn. We can help those interns figure out how they are going to get to their job.

Other classes

Biking can be incorporated into many classes! This boosts engagement and offers unique cross-curricular opportunities.

For example:

  • Persuasive writing to the city on street design for pedestrian safety
  • Analyzing car speed data in Math and Science classes
  • Mapping geographic data about bike paths in Math and Social Studies classes
  • Surveying peers about transportation decisions for Social Studies and English classes
  • Learning about a current street design issue and crafting comments to the city for Social Studies and Government classes
  • Comparing infrastructure design choices in regard to water runoff for Environmental Science classes
  • etc…

Milwaukee: Teen Bike Camps

Sponsored by Milwaukee Rec Partnership for the Arts and Humanities, Enrolling teens in 8th-11th grade. FAQ

Teen Bike Camp: MKE Food and Culture offers a unique opportunity for young adventurers to explore the city’s vibrant food and cultural scene while enjoying the freedom and excitement of cycling. Participants embark on guided bike tours that weave through Milwaukee’s eclectic neighborhoods, each brimming with its own distinctive charm and history. Along the way, campers are introduced to a variety of local culinary delights, from the city’s famous cheese curds and bratwursts to its burgeoning farm-to-table and international cuisine offerings. More than just a culinary journey, the camp also delves into Milwaukee’s rich cultural tapestry, visiting local landmarks and food destinations. Through this immersive experience, teens not only develop cycling skills and a deeper appreciation for healthy living but also gain a profound understanding of the diverse cultural influences that shape this dynamic city.

Teen Bike Camp: Art Exploration is an innovative program designed to combine the thrill of biking with the creative spark of art. This unique camp offers teenagers the opportunity to explore their local surroundings on two wheels, while stopping at various art-related destinations such as galleries, murals, and art installations. As they pedal through different neighborhoods, participants not only improve their biking skills but also gain a deeper appreciation for art in all its forms. The camp encourages teens to document their journey through sketching, photography, or even creating their own art pieces inspired by the sights they encounter. By fostering a sense of adventure and creativity, Teen Bike Camp: Art Exploration helps young people develop both their physical and artistic abilities in a fun and engaging way.

Teen Internships

In Milwaukee, we offer a summer internship opportunity for teens who want to experience the broad scope of careers in the world of cycling and public transportation. In addition to learning the basics of Smart Cycling, our interns work alongside our Safe Routes Instructors, teaching our 3rd-8th grade Summer Camp participants. The internship concludes with a capstone trip to Chicago to experience every available mode of non-car transportation available, including Amtrak, Water Taxi, and Divvy Bikes!

We’ll post a link to the application for 2025 here when it is available.
