We have all been through a lot these past few months, and with the busy holiday season approaching, you may feel more on your plate, metaphorically if not literally! When this happens, we escape on our bikes – if not in real time, we at least remember our favorite rides – a gentle tailwind, beautiful scenery and/or our favorite commute.

No matter who you are, where you live or what you ride, bikes make life better! If you bike or walk in Wisconsin, the Bike Fed and our supporters have improved your ride. Bike Fed has expanded biking and accessible transportation.  This year, we:

  • taught thousands of children and adults to ride a bike for the first time – or to feel more confident navigating their community on two wheels
  • brought the joy of cycling to seniors and individuals with mobility challenges through Cycling Without Age and adaptive cycling programs.
  • elevated the needs for pedestrian safety and more accessible transit options
  • produced some of 2024’s most memorable events
  • helped communities across the state access grants for bike lanes, side paths and trails

I use my bike every day to get around town. It offers me a chance to see and catch up with neighbors along the way. It also allows me to slowly transition to and from work; to experience different types of weather; the changes from season to season; the beauty of the river and the historic downtown area… And every now and then I am treated to priceless surprises, just like yesterday, when a flock of chatty Canada geese flew over me and showed me the way to my office. What an experience!

Capitalizing on current Federal funding opportunities, Bike Fed partnered with Wisconsin DOT to prioritize $44 million in Federal Redistribution funds to projects that improve safety and connectivity and help the environment – including over $14 million in funds to address deferred maintenance issues on State trails.

And we connect the statewide bike community through our communications, events and advocacy – giving cyclists access to exciting new ride experiences.  The Bike Fed receives NO designated funding for our communications including the annual Ride Guide, informative website and timely weekly emails. Your contributions now enable us to continue these vital services

If you appreciate good times biking  (and we know you do), please join us in making a year-end gift to the Bike Fed.  Your support keeps us rolling.

Enjoy your ride!

PS – Knowing we could all use some good news, our Board members are sharing some of their biking stories here. If you want to spread some cheer and advance cycling in Wisconsin, after you make your donation, please post a favorite bike story on your social media with this phrase and link: Create more best good times on bikes with a gift to https://wisconsinbikefed.org/support-us/donate/. Thank you!

I ride bikes for all kinds of reasons, but my favorite reason is to commute with my daughter to and from school because it gives us time to talk and connect without other distractions. Bikes have the power to connect families and communities.
