The Advanced Smart Cycling class is your starting point towards becoming a League of American Bicyclists certified League Cycling Instructor (LCI). This class is the prerequisite for taking the LCI Seminar (11/13-11/15 in Wausau) where you will learn to teach the Smart Cycling curriculum.
The free class includes:
- REQUIRED pre-session completion of ONLINE modules on the League of American Bicyclists website https://learn.bikeleague.org/p/smartcycling
- in-classroom instruction
- on-bike skill building practice
- a group road ride where you have the chance to put what you’ve learned into practice.
The Smart Cycling curriculum is very comprehensive and covers:
- BASIC–Parts of a Bike, Choosing Your Bike, Types of Bikes, Bike Fit, ABC Quick Check, Starting, Stopping, Steering, Signaling, Scanning, Shifting, Principles of Traffic Law, Bike Infrastructure, Hazards in Bicycling
- INTERMEDIATE–Riding with a Group, Bicycle Maintenance, Sharing Paths and Trails, Riding in Inclement Weather, Night Riding, Rural Road Riding, Bicycling for Transportation and Commuting
- ADVANCED–Riding Long Distances, Limited Access Highways, Hazard Avoidance Maneuvers
The class is taught by League Cycling Instructors.
