Pedal & Balance Lessons @ Wheel & Sprocket
The Wisconsin Bike Fed is excited to again be offering our popular Pedal & Balance Lessons for youth ages 5-10.
When: Thursday June 18 & Friday June 19
9 AM – 11 AM
OR
12 PM – 2 PM
Where: Wheel & Sprocket Bay View
The Wisconsin Bike Fed’s Balance & Pedal Program is intended to teach kids to ride a bike for the first time. Many kids struggle finding their balance on two wheels. This process of teaching them is tough for both kids and their parents. Over two 2-hour sessions, the Wisconsin Bike Fed’s expert Safe Routes Instructors will work to get your kids pedaling all on their own. Think of this program as a “learn to ride bicycle rodeo.”
This program takes place over two days, Thursday June 18 & Friday June 19. You can sign up for either the set of 9-11 AM sessions or the 12-2 PM sessions.
This program is considered “drop-in” so if you are not available the entire 2 hours each day, simply bring your child for some practice anytime during the time slot you signed up for. The class takes place at the Wheel & Sprocket in Bay View 187 E. Becher Street. Some kids may start rolling after the first session and will not need to return the second day.
Your child will learn from and ride with our team of expert Safe Routes Instructors with our K8 Youth Programs Manager, Michael Anderson, on call to help out where needed and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Guardians are welcome to stay and get some personal work done on our Wi-Fi, either on the patio or inside the building.
We will have balance bikes and a few other small children’s bicycles available for your child to borrow, but we recommend also bringing whatever bike your child is currently using. We use the balance bike method of teaching kids to ride a bike, never training wheels.
Key skills: Balance, Awareness, Pedal Position, Looking Forward, Starting and Stopping, & Interacting with other kids on a bike.
