“Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike” John F. Kennedy

Really appreciating our rural community of Waushara County, like most things has come more appreciated with age.  As a child I didn’t appreciate the quiet country roads as I rode my bike.  My bike was just a way to get places and do things.  Now my bike is a way to get away from places and clear my mind.  Enjoying the quiet roads, the variety of scenery of wildlife, rivers, lakes and farmlands is where I crave to be.  With the bonus that riding is also a great way to a get in a little exercise, too.

A few years ago, Waushara County was able to take all 10 of their paved bike routes totaling 270 miles overall and made them accessible to everyone by designating them with bike route signs.  We have flat roads, rolling hills and some hills that can be a real doozy.  If you want to challenge yourself, take a quick detour off Route #6 and climb the Mt. Morris Park Hill, just about a ½ mile long, the average grade is 6.7% (15.2% at the steepest) and about 170 feet of elevation gain.  When you get to the top ride over to the scenic overlook for the view and a picture.

Waushara County also has some fantastic mountain biking trails located in Mt. Morris at the Nordic Mountain Ski Hill.  Just a change of scenery, the wildlife, the sounds of nature, crunching pine needles and leaves, all can be mentally relaxing and help reduce stress. Our bodies release endorphins during mountain biking, which are a natural chemical that can boost our mood and can help with anxiety and depression.  Our trails are groomed and maintained by Mt Morris Single Track (formerly Waushara Area Mountain Bike Association).  We have nine miles of trails for mountain biking in the summer and 3 miles of trails for fat tire biking in the winter for all your biking pleasure.
