After a successful Summit in 2022, Bike Fed is delighted to once again partner with the Wisconsin Office of Outdoor Recreation to present the Wisconsin Healthy Communities Summit on April 29th at the UW-Madison Union. Join us for information, ideas, and inspiration from national and local experts, and return home energized to make a difference!

In these weeks leading up to the Summit, we are delighted to highlight some of the dynamic speakers and presenters that are participating this year.

Today we invite you to come and learn from one of the best when it comes to pedestrian safety and accessibility, Jonathan Stalls. Be sure to get your tickets before April 19th to attend the 2024 Wisconsin Healthy Communities Summit

A self-described “Multidisciplinary Walking Artist,” Jonathon Stalls has made a career out of, well, walking!

In 2010, Jonathon spent 242 days walking across the U.S. and continues to move alongside diverse cultures and landscapes for days, weeks, or months at a time. These experiences have shaped and continue to shape his work in activism, writing, hosted events, and art.

Jonathon is the author of the book WALK: Slow Down, Wake Up, and Connect at 1-3 Miles per Hour. In this collection of stories, practices, and essays, he explores the gifts of unhurried movement: how a cross-country journey through the family farms of West Virginia, the deep freedom of Nevada’s High desert, and everywhere in between opened new avenues for renewal, connection, and change.

Jonathon will be leading the “Changemaker” Super Session at the Healthy Communities Summit. This will be an indoor/outdoor afternoon session focused on pedestrian dignity and will feature an active “walkshop” or “walk audit” where participants will center the lived experience of people who walk, use mobility devices, and take transit as their primary or preferred form.

Through his work, Jonathon  advocates for racial, environmental, and social justice and studied at the Living School for Action & Contemplation in 2017. He is also the creator of Intrinsic Paths as well as the Pedestrian Dignity project, and is the founder of Walk2Connect.

Find all the speakers and presenters (the list is still growing!) on the event website.

If your time is limited, you can still participate in the Summit! Consider joining us for Jessie Singer’s keynote speech and lunch with the “lunch & keynote only” option. The ticket cost is $27 and covers attendance from 12 PM to 2 PM for Jessie’s keynote as well as a provided lunch.
