We are excited to again co-host the Wisconsin Healthy Communities Summit with the Wisconsin Office of Outdoor Recreation after a successful exchange of information, ideas, and inspiration in 2022. This year’s event will bring you insight from national and local experts on topics that are valuable to improving quality of life in both urban and rural communities.

Over the weeks leading up to the Summit we will highlight some of the dynamic speakers and presenters that are participating in the 2024 Summit. Today we introduce you to the keynote speaker, including a new special ticket option to learn from her research over lunch.

Be sure to get your tickets by April 19th to come and see renowned author and journalist Jessie Singer at the 2024 Wisconsin Healthy Communities Summit

Jessie Singer is a journalist, keynote speaker, and the author of “There Are No Accidents: The Deadly Rise of Injury and Disaster — Who Profits and Who Pays the Price,” a SlateFortune MagazineMother Jones, and The Economist best book of the year. Her writing appears in the Washington PostThe AtlanticThe NationBloomberg NewsNew York magazine, The Guardian, and elsewhere.

Jessie is an expert in safe systems, injury prevention, harm reduction, and the ongoing rise in “accidental” death.

Jessie studied journalism at the Arthur L. Carter School of Journalism at New York University, and under the wing of the late investigative journalist Wayne Barrett.

The themes Jessie will be speaking on are ever-relevant to the Bike Fed’s work. Her advocacy work to make transportation and communities safe and accessible for all aligns directly with Bike Fed values. The Bike Fed, its members, partners, and advocates seek to create meaningful change for cyclists, pedestrians, and trail users around the state. Together, using Jessie’s national work and inspirational words, we can take note and apply what we learn to local advocacy and project work right here in Wisconsin.

New “Lunch & Keynote Speaker” Ticket Option

If you can’t join us for the whole day at the summit, please consider still joining us for Jessie’s keynote speech and lunch! We recently added a “Lunch & Keynote Only” ticket option for folks with limited time. The ticket cost is $27 and covers attendance from 12 PM to 2 PM for Jessie’s keynote as well as a provided lunch.
