Bike Skills Park @ Baird Creek
Original story shared July 2021, with updates in October 2022 and July 2023.
The Bike Fed has been hard at work in northeast Wisconsin, partnering with advocates in Green Bay and the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation (BCPF) to bring a new mountain biking skills park to the area. We’re excited that thanks to donations from Saris Foundation (renamed Bike Parks for Kids Foundation in 2023) and the Hendrickson Family Foundation, the skills park is nearly funded with plans to break ground soon. The new Saris Bike Park @ Baird Creek will be an incredible asset to bikers of all ages in Green Bay and surrounding areas who are interested in mountain biking, giving them access to a unique experience within the community.
Once construction is completed, Bike Fed plans to assist in running training camps for young riders, giving them the tools they need to ride and build upon their skills. With mountain biking increasing in popularity, the new bike park and programs that go along with it will serve as a community hub for outdoor recreation, youth engagement, and healthy living.
The park’s mission is simple: to build resilience and self-confidence in our underserved youth by getting them to experience the joy of biking through a world-class network of integrated off-street bike trails and bicycle parks/playgrounds. With this mission in mind, there will be beginner, intermediate, and advanced tracks at the Saris Bike Park @ Baird Creek, addressing the needs of riders of every skill level and ability.
Bike Fed is proud to have been involved in getting this community asset underway for northeast Wisconsinites, and we’re looking forward to working with local staff to establish youth education opportunities and mobile bike repair.
October 2022 UPDATE: Despite a tremendous amount of effort and hard work, the skills park experienced an unexpected delay when builders encountered a hillside filled with glass bottles, crockery, etc. Happily no garbage was found; however, testing and other soil-related work must be completed before proceeding. With colder weather approaching, the decision has been made to complete what can be done this fall and return in spring to finish the project. It was a difficult decision for organizers, but the necessary one to ensure that the park is safe for riders to enjoy for years to come. Please watch for updates as planners look forward to a ribbon-cutting celebration in late spring/early summer 2023.
