Riding in Waushara County means quiet country roads, seeing wildlife, lakes, rivers, woodlands and farmland.  Cruising through the small townships, villages or cities in this county you will come across many parks, shops and great places to eat.

There are so many opportunities to road ride in Waushara County.  Starting with the fact that there are 10 different bike routes spanning all across the county that add up to about 270 miles of scenic enjoyment! Of 10 routes, 4 of them have directional signage already and by the summer of 2021, the remaining 6 of the bike routes will be signed. The directional signage makes it easier to follow the routes and visit the area.  You can find these routes now by picking up a bike booklet in a local Waushara County library, the Waushara Area Chamber of Commerce, or online at www.wausharacountypublichealth.com.  This bike booklet is also available on the Waushara County Parks Department website.

Waushara County also has some great mountain biking trails located in Mt. Morris at the Nordic Mountain Ski Hill.  These trails are groomed and maintained by Waushara Area Mountain Bike Association (WAMBA).  There are a total of nine miles of trails to use in the summer, and 3 miles of trails for winter Fat Tire Biking. Fat Tire Biking has become a very popular sport in the area for the winter months and you will even see groups of bikers getting out on the road all winter long

.

Waushara County has an amazing biking community that seems to be getting bigger every year.  There are a wide range of ages and abilities that are a part of this group.  With a group ride almost every day of the week it is perfect for beginner, intermediate and experienced riders.   Each group is very supporting to each other and offers coaching to any new person on technique, road rules, etc.  Group members are known to  challenge each other whenever we can to climb Mt. Morris Hill, which is about a ½ mile climb at a 6.7% grade..  There are destination rides all throughout the summer that pop-up.  Such as riding to the dairy breakfast, local breweries, food trucks, wineries, and early morning coffee rides.  Join our Facebook Group  “Waushara County Social Cycling and Fitness” and come and ride with us soon.

The biking community was initiated in the 1980’s by local legend the late Paul Walker.  To honor him, several people decided to have an informal ride in his name.  Therefore, in June of 2020, the first annual Paul Walker 103 was created with a large group of riders participating.  Most of the riders rode the entire 103 miles, while a few made the route a little shorter.  The route is a large loop around Waushara County and is easily adjusted for riders who want to ride a shorter distance.

The 2nd Annual Paul Walker 103 will be held on June 26, 2021, and is open to everyone.  The ride is very informal (no SAG support), but will have occasional stops on the way.  Join the aforementioned Facebook page and see the events to let us know you’re coming.

Come see Waushara County on two wheels.  We’d love to see you here!
